Rim Lock
Not to be confused with a Rim Cylinder lock, these are fitted on doors that are not thick enough have a Mortice lock installed, but are thick enough able to have one these smaller-length locks installed. These locks still remain vulnerable to intrusion, because the door can still be kicked in, and since both the lock and the recess for the bolt are on the same side of the door, the door's integrity is only as strong as the surrounding framework.
